Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce

Learn how to make delicious pizza sauce! It is incredibly easy and the taste blows your store-bought sauce out of the water!

Pizza night is a fun, family-friendly tradition that’s easy to pull off. I usually plan at least two a month and it is always something my family gets excited about! To save time, I like to prepare the dough in advance. Whether it’s earlier in the day or the night before, letting the dough rise in the fridge simplifies the process, especially when you’ve got little ones running around or a busy workday ahead. Check out my pizza dough recipe here.

If you’re building a from-scratch kitchen, making your own pizza sauce is a game-changer. It’s easier than you might think and lets you control the ingredients and customize the taste. Here’s a simple recipe to get you started

Why You Should Make Homemade Pizza Sauce

Building a from scratch pantry means that you don’t have to keep sauce on hand.  By knowing how to whip this up on a moment’s notice you are always prepared for homemade pizza without the need to run to the store for a specialty item. Go ahead and print this out to keep in your kitchen recipe stash.

Easy to make: This sauce uses only a couple items you probably have sitting on your pantry shelf.

Cost effective: By making your own, you are spending pennies compared to buying premade sauce at the store.

Control the ingredients: You know what is in your sauce and you are eliminating any unwanted ingredients.

Tips For The Perfect Pizza Sauce

Roasting the Vegetables: For a deeper, more complex flavor, roast the garlic and onion before adding them to the sauce.

Adding Herbs: Experiment with different herbs like thyme, rosemary, or fennel seeds to create unique flavor profiles.

Thickening the Sauce: If you prefer a thicker sauce, simmer it for longer or use a cornstarch slurry to thicken it.

How to Store Homemade Pizza Sauce

This pizza sauce stores well for up to one week in the refrigerator. Otherwise, I suggest storing in 1 cup portions in the freezer for up to 6 months. You can do this by pouring the sauce into plastic freezer bags or using a silicone mold.
