How to make Green Bean Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup half n half or milk
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tblsp Olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup French fried onions, divided

Step-by-step Instructions

  1. Blanch the green beans: Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add the trimmed green beans and boil for approximately 2-3 minutes. They should still be bright green.
  2. Make the sauce: Add the olive oil to a saucepan on medium-high heat and saute the garlic and onion with a sprinkle of salt & pepper until translucent. Next add the can of Cream of mushroom soup & half-n-half. Stir until well combined.
  3. Compile the casserole: Add the cooked green beans to a 9 x 13 baking dish, pour the sauce over top and gently stir to coat.
  4. Top it off: Evenly cover the green beans with the shredded cheddar cheese and the French Fried onions. 
  5. Bake: Cover with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 10 minutes, then uncover and cook for 10 – 15 more minutes or until heated through and bubbly.
