How to Make All-Purpose Cleaning Spray

All-Purpose Castile Soap Cleaning Spray

This Non-toxic cleaner is simple, effective, and safe to use in all areas of your home. This recipe has just 2 main ingredients and takes only a couple of minutes to make!

I have spent the last few years making the switch to homemade or all natural cleaning products and body care. Throughout this journey, I have found that there are a ridiculous amount of uses for castile soap. This is by far one of the most versatile natural cleaning ingredients out there! We have all unknowingly over complicated our cleaning routines. When you simplify your routine you find that you can get scores of different cleaning tasks done with just a handful of different ingredients. I love this recipe because it is not only easy to make, but it saves me money and gives me comfort knowing that I control what ingredients are being sprayed around my home.

Why Make the Switch from Store Bought?

So many store bought cleaners have a whole host of unwanted chemicals and compounds in them. Unfortunately in this day and age it takes quite a bit of time and effort to be a conscious consumer. There is a lot of misinformation and campaigns to destigmatize certain ingredients, and many people are made to feel like they are fear mongering or being overly concerned when it comes to this stuff. Heres my bottom line: SIMPLIFY. In everything I do and everything I use I try to find the most simple product or way of doing it.
The store bought stuff certainly isnt simple, and there are a few ingredients in particular that you should raise your eyebrows at if you see them. I have compiled a list below.

Phthalates: This shouldnt come as a suprise to any of you. These are found in so many household products as well as skin care and hair care. As a general rule of thumb, if something has a fragrance, you can bet it has phthalates as well. As for the health risks, they are known endocrine disruptors and have been linked to fertility issues in both men and women.

Perchloroethylene or “PERC”: PERC is found in cleaners and especially in dry cleaning products. It is a neurotoxin and the EPA classifies it as a “possible carcinogen”.

Triclosan: Found in dishwashing soaps and hand soaps labeld as “antibacterial”. It is a particularly aggressive antibacterial agent that has been linked to promoting the growth of drug resistant bacteria. As for the health risks, it is a potential endocrine disruptor and probable carcinogen.

Beware of Greenwashing

Again back to the need to be a savvy, conscious, and educated consumer. Just because a product is labeled as green or eco friendly or all natural does not mean that it is in fact safe. Many companies intentionally mislead consumers using tactics like vagueness, making claims with no proof, presenting meaningless certifications, using irrelevant yet truthful information, and so much more.

How this All-Purpose Cleaner Works

Castile soap is a safe vegetable-based soap that is free of synthetic ingredients and chemicals. It has been used for hundreds of years and is a fantastic hypoallergenic option. Castile soap is highly concentrated and must be diluted for its most effective usage.

What Can You Clean With This Spray?

I use this cleaner just about everywhere in my home except windows and mirrors (it will leave behind a residue). Here are a few on my favorite areas to use this all-purpose cleaner

  • kitchen surfaces: sink, cooktop, oven, counter tops, refrigerator, tile and grout
